Night eating syndrome

Night eating syndrome is the name for a combined eating and sleep disturbance found mostly among obese people.

The night eating syndrome is described as an eating disorder with a circadian delay of eating leading to disrupted sleep, while timing and duration of sleep do not seem to doffer form other subjects.

It is a fairly uncommon eating disorder in the general population with only 15% of adults in the general population. However it affects up to a quarter of obese people.

People who have been identified as having night eating syndrome appear to have several hormonal abnormalities which researchers think may help explain their symptoms:
*Melatonin – a hormone involved in sleep

*Leptin – a hormones involved in appetite control and weight regulation

Night eating syndrome consists of morning anorexia, evening hyperphagia and insomnia.

Sufferers eat a lot at bedtime and waken more often during the night and breakfast is often delayed for several hours after awakening.

They eats more than half of daily food intake during and after dinner but before breakfast, They may leave the bed to snack at night.
