Some symptoms include:
*Frequent episodes of eating large quantities of food in relatively short periods of time
*Feeling powerless to stop eating
*Feeling ashamed or disgusted by the behavior or very guilty after overeating
*Eating rapidly than normal
*Eating in secret
*Eating until uncomfortably full
Person with binge eating disorder generally have chaotic eating behavior that differs from that of persons with bulimia nervosa and form person with obesity who do not binge eat.
They have low levels of dietary restraint, whereas in bulimia nervosa the binge eating alternates with high levels of dietary restriction.
Some form of binge eating and purging affects about 5% of women in the United States, and a similar percentage of women in most Western countries. This percentage increases in those who are severely obese. The disorder also appears to be spreading into less developed countries.
