Holidays can be fun and can fill your home with warmth and love. But the holidays can also be stressful, creating new problems and making existing problems worse.

Many African-Americans experience high levels of stress and frustration during the holidays--even more so than during the rest of the year. Perhaps that these people were worrying so much about work during their holidays or whether from overeating or being in poor physical shape or just not taking out enough time for yourself, even the tiniest amount of stress can derail your holiday cheer.

It could be the stress of the work followed by the cessation of that activity during the holiday that causes the problems.

Much of this holiday pressure is created because this is the time that children are home from school, members of your extended family come to visit, and friends want to share some holiday cheer with you.

Stress can also affect the way our bodies digest food and can cause stomach woes, such as indigestion and heartburn. If you eat too little or too much and your body isn't accustomed to the trauma, you can definitely experience adverse stress effects.

Stress during hectic holidays wears down your immune system and leaves you open to colds, flu, headaches ulcers, high blood pressure, heart attacks and a host of other health problems.

What you need to do are:
*Take a cup of tea, sit down in a quiet place and think of the three most important things or feelings you would like to feel during this holiday.
*Due planning what to do
*Do checklist
*Reduce stress during holiday season by allowing yourself to say ‘no’ to commitments and events that seem stressful to you.
*Treat yours to something special when you are ready to do so. This is no way disrespectful to your loved one.
